Hello,

Can anyone please clarify if the Juwel tanks are in UK gallons or US Gallons?

The 260 vision in particular is it 57G or 69G.

Thanks
Cybortech.

I think all the Jewel tanks are actually liters (Jewel 180 would be 180 liters). You can convert that either way you want. As for the forum, when people talk of gallons, as in the 1" per gallon guide for fish, they are always talking of US gallons. A Jewel 260 would be is about 69 gallons.

it is obvious from the above that members need to start specifying what gallons they are talking about, maybe someone important should put a notice to that effect on the baord somewhere prominent.

I'd say that 999,999 times out of a million, if a member says gallons, they mean US gallons. It's extremely rare for anyone to mention UK gallons as all information (such as filter power) are either in liters per hour or gallons (US) per hour.

Thats true rdd but when you live in the good ole Uk as i do we get used to the old way of things. Its like we still use the Mile when on the continent they all use the Kilometre. ;)

I have to agree, most stats in the UK quote imperial gallons, not US gallons. I always state whether, or just expect people to look to the right to see where I am from. It's not that difficult...

Well I am surprised an American has heard of litres, I doubt very much if many people outside the US give much credence to a US gallon, the US might be big but it ain't that big, as it is currently finding out! All the boxes I look at (and I am in Thailand mostly far eastern products, pretty neutral ) quote US gallons and Imperial gallons and litres on the box so don't be fooled that the rest of the world is as ill informed as the US consumer.

Actually, there was a big push by the government about 25 years ago to switch to the metric (is that the proper name) unit of measure. Most all the gas pumps were switched to liters. I didn't have a clue how much I was paying for a gallon of gas and felt like the gas stations were ripping everyone off. There was such backlash from it that everything changed back to the old way. The government is still trying to switch some thing over. About 19 years ago, they made it where any construction that had government money in it (schools, etc) had to be metric. The block company I worked for at the time had to switch their block machines over to make 400x200x200 unit instead of the regular 16x8x8 unit. Anyway, the simple thing to do is ask someone if they mean US or UK. I still think that 99%, even those outside the US, will say US gallons.

I remember when they were trying to switch us on to metric. They kept saying the country will be fully adopted to the metric system in 5 years  20 some odd years later and we are still measuring by the old ways :( But, when I am in Canada I do feel like I am being ripped off at the gas pump :-( They use the metric system.

Dear RDD,

I don't want to go on, but think about it , at the time (and for long after) Britain was colonising and getting booted out of the U.S. , it was also colonising the rest of the world, we are talking, a large part of Africa, India, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, and look here for the rest:

http://www.know-britain.com/general/common...countries1.html

Do you think that anyone in these countries has a clue about a US gallon?

Its only recently (relatively) the U.S. has thought about picking up a few colonies.

This gallons thing is important so we should all qualify our posts accordingly.

spacebass, you're right that we're beating a dead horse so to speak. I doubt anyone in the rest of the world know much about gallons, inches, etc unless they keep fish. I do feel that anyone who has kept fish, read books about fishkeeping, etc. has been exposed to US gallons so they would know what it is. In any case, I will try to start clarifying my posts as US gallons.

i live in the UK, but i grew up in the US from the age of 7 to 9, and that well and truely messed me up.
i have no idea what a litre is, but i'm happy with the US gallon, no idea what kilometre is but the mile is a-ok.

Without getting into the whole debate, i would just take it that when people talk about inches of fish per gallon and watts per gallon for lighting, they are refering to the US gallon. Thats my understanding anyway ;)
