Oh man, I am so mad. This is the second heater that I fried. I don't get it. I have to put it diagonnally and I put the end of it in a corner and literally taped the heater and cord everywhere in dry places. How do you guys keep diagonal heaters from falling in? I just spent 35 canadian on those 2 friggin heaters and I need a solution cause I'm not wrecking the third one as well... I gotta get a new one first. I'm sooo ticked. :(

Ummmm.... My one came with 2 clips on suction-cups. you could build a ramp out of driftwood, lil rocks maybe

Ohh forgot to ask how did it go with the heater with water in it

hey jungle, I haven't brought it back yet, these are the only two I have, so I gotta try and get an exchange for the other one.I'm gunna get my bf to bring it in cause I'm always in that store and they might think I'm crazy or something lol. I'm doing that on thursday so wish me luck cause I really don't want to buy another one :/

lets back up a little bit here. what brand and model number are these heaters that are breaking?

No I think the heaters are fine but they fall in the water and then the water goes in the heater and fries them. They just have the cord and no suction cups. I taped the thing to the tank but it didn't want to stay I guess. I'm just frustrated cause I taped it on as good as it would go and for some reason it still fell in.

yeah I think what skifletch is asking would be handy because 3 heads are better than one and maybe we could hunt about as see if others have had the same kind of problems as you have.

is it a hang on the rim design with a little knob on top to adjust the temperature setting and an orange light in the middle to indicate whether or not its on? Usually near the top of those type there is a notch that is supposed to go over your tank wall and a screw to tighten it in place...

Yes it is that one, but I have to put it in diagonally because there is only 4 inches of water in the tank right now, so I can't hang it anymore. I have found a solution but I don't know if it will work yet. It is that heater though and they work fine but for the first one I didn't think water would go in it that fast. The top was only in the water for a few minutes before I noticed.

So are you filling the tank with the heater suspended in strange ways? Those type of heaters are not designed to be ran in any orientation other than straight up and down. Even if you managed to suspend it diagonally its thermostat still would not likely function properly and you might get overheating or temperature fluctuations. What are the dimensions of the tank and the wattage of the heater?

Ok easy now. Like said before, the heater works fine except it fell in the water so it must have filled up on the inside and fried it. I'm just asking if there are other ways you can put them diagonally because people do it all the time. The heater worked fine, I just gotta find a way for it not to fall in the water again. I taped it a ton but I guess it wasn't enough. It stayed the whole day and during the night it fell. Oh well I'll find a way.

This may sound strange but is there someway you can attach a bit of string to a weight on the floor and attachthe other end of the string to the cable holding it at the right position and tayping where you knot the string to the cable. -_-

Sorry about that didnt mean to come off as harsh :*) just trying to help

Use a submersible heater for christs sake.
Do you have a wal-mart or a chain pet store? Or even a good locally-owned pet store? Ask the manager for a sumersible heater. I use them in all my tanks, and they even have a water line, so they look misleading. But for all my heaters, the package said submersible, and they fall underwater sometimes, but they dont wreck. To put a heater diagonally, you could wedge it behind a filter pipe or something. Be creative.

Uhh, okay I've been trying to be as creative as I can thanks. We don't exactly have that many choices of heaters around here, trust me.
