I've just checked a couple of UK sites and found the API Freshwater Master kit which has covers pH, High range pH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate for just under £16. I'll check my local Jolleys in the morning to see if they stock them and if not I'll order one online.

Get an API master kit, gives you everything you need. Do you use dechlorinater with your water changes? Also the amount of peas and garlic is fine, if he is eating then its always a good sign.

Also change about 40% of the water, just to make sure that there is no crap floating around from rotting down garlic/peas etc. Also remove any old bits of cucumber he does not like, plus turn the lights off until he is better. Just stops him being too jumpy.
