UPDATE!!!
another cichlid has died!!! my parrots are not acting right. they are not normal. the little one is hiding behind filter still. im so worried. nothing seems to be working. should i do a 50% water change or something?

Help Help!!!

right!

ok i have a tank with, 2 parrots,1 blue parrot,2 firemouths,2 clown loaches,2 sharks(red and a silver) and 3 other chiclids.

now the clowns have had really bad whitespot for about 4 days, i had been treating them but it wasnt getting better.

i woke up and the 2 clowns were dead. and the silver shark had died last night.

im really worried. as i love my parrots so much. and all the fish are laying near the filter. just laying there. and keep swimming on their side rubbing the sand.

i really need help.

please.

Can you give us an idea of your water parameters, water temp.....and how were you treating the tank for whitespot?

ok , was treating Whitespot control adding it every 48hours. water is fine, no ammonia. and no nitrates well very little. did a water change.

the tank is 40Gal UK 4ft long. and the temp is 78f

You tank is a bit to small for the fish you have...what are the other 3 cichlids you have. Whitespot is usually brought on by poor water conditions and stress. Personally i'd increase the tank temperature gradually to about 83-84deg. But with an overstocked tank you may have ongoing problems due to lack of space and territorial disputes.

i really dunno wht the other 3 it toally slipped my mind. but they are not very big atm. there seems to be loads of space tho.

in there now, 2 parrots,a fontasia,2 firemouths.red tailed shark, and 3 others/ thats it.

There may seem like alot of space....but really there isn't when you think about how big these fish can get.....Fontasia alone are a fish that need to be in groups and can get very big....I also believe that parrots are not suitable for a 40gal due to there size. The Firemouths are probably the only species that you can keep in a tank that size and would probably be the only thing you could safely put in there....I know how tempting it is to add fish to a tank...But when you aren't even sure of wha type's you are adding, your asking for trouble. I'd suggest positively identifying what you have and then think about returnnig the fish you can't have.

ive had the parrots for 7 months, and have had no problems. what can i do to sort out this problem.

the other chiclids. are. a leopady kinda one, a pure white/silver one and a yellowy kinda one.

Anyway you can get a picture of them?....this way someone can give you a positive I.D.... Even if you do an internet search, and look for a picture of the same type of fish you have.

I sorry can only see 2 ways of dealing with your problem.

1, get rid of some fish, you LFS may take them well if there healthy they should, espeshaly the fronts, cos they get HUGH.

2, if your going to keep them your proberly have to do big water changes every day, and big ones at that. Not good for the fish.

whats you nitrIte levels??
