what shall i do, i noticed my guppie has squared off and the tube near her anus has opened, so it should be tonight.

ive got a 35l set up (trying to breed corys) not substrate, sponge filter, small piece bogwood.
one tiny floating plant.

shall i put her in there tonight? Maybe put some plants from my other plants to protect the young from mum.
if i did would i need to acclimitize her as there is no heater.

good luck
sounds like shes ready to drop
yes i would put here in there and leave her in there till she drops and when she has net her out so she does not eat them
and yer i would put plants in there but have you got a light if not fake plants
about acclimatising how warm is it because with out a heater it may stress or may kill her

If its a small tank a heater is better than a filter. I have a small tank set up for fry, as I do daily water changes I only need a heater and find the fry are thriving.

well the lid has LED light, no spare plugs tho, but there is a floating plant there already and that is doing alright.
i do have spare heater but again no plugs.
i will check temp soon

i thought filter was most important to clear waste and give oxygen?

If you do daily water changes, this won't be an issue. Also you wont lose fry being sucked up in the filter. When cleaning I use a fine net over a glass jug just in case fry get sucked up by mistake.

ill take filter out and put a heater in instead then.

haven't you got a extention lead or a multi plug
so you can have all them and how much light does the tank get without the light because maybe you could swap the light for the heater

no multiplug
it gets from sun up to sun down really, but it isnt in direct sunlight

My tank dosn't have a light, it's on the kitchen window ledge. Water changes and proper feed are key factors to fry development.

out of all three the heater is the most important in my opinion
and then depening on what plants you have (if they do not need much light take away the light for the filter for a few days
but the filter will not be cycled so you will prob still have to do daily water changes

ok, just heater then with daily w/c should do fine then.

also should i acclimitize her?

Simples. Use some of the same tank water and just make sure it's the same temperture. Top up with clean declor water and away you go. Keep us updated. Once I've sorted out my pictures on this new laptop. I'll post a picture of my fry tank. :good:

Not to start all over, but where is she now? When one of my females was ready to drop, I moved her into a different tank, and she ended up not dropping at all. Not sure what happened to the fry, but she didn't go through the cycle again for a month. At that time, I just left her where she was and she dropped about 30 fry. I have one 10g set up with 2 females and one male (and a fiddler crab) and lots of hornwort for the fry to hide in. I just let the females drop when they're ready, then scoop out the fry and put them in their own tank, which is exactly the same temperature and with the same plants (hornwort and pennywort). I haven't lost a single fry.

still in the 125 l atm, but will be staying in the 35l soon

I just keep a vigilant eye on the females, If I see young I scoop them up before they get eaten. It's not uncommon for the mothers to eat their own.
