One of my neons got suck up by the pump in my aquarium! I've just come back to my place and could see just 5, and after inspecting, i could see it twisting a bit at the lowest part of my pump. I'm of course going to take it out now and hope to release it safely (though I don't know how long it's been in). I have an in-hood filter so there won't be a water flow for a while. What do I do with the baskets with my spunges and media?

Please help asap!!

Throw them outside.
I dunno maybe do what tizer said?

It's very rare for a healthy adult fish to be sucked into a filter by the pump, they are too strong. Fish that are weakened by illnessare susceptible to this though, so if it's still alive when you release it, monitor it closesly for a couple of hours afterwards.

Fish's dead, and now pump doesn't work. The fish was young, guess it was just too small. Will take my precautions now. Now for fixing that stupid pump

A fish old enough to be sold at a LFS is adult enough to be too strong for a filter pump, unless you've got one that's seriously too powerful. The point is, if I'm right, and the neon was ill, it may not be an isolated case. Keep a watchful eye.

My LFS sells the tiniest of neons (you'd say they are just a few weeks old) though :)

All I'm saying is please be aware of the possibility.

I don't know a thing about your tank or filter system. Sorry. Hopefully someone here does and can help you out. So sorry for the loss of your fish!

Can't fix the pump as of now, gonna need a new one, which I might get tomorrow.
As for my filter media, it's still in the bucket with tank water. Should I just leave it like that? Won't the bacteria die off?
