Urgent Help Needed! Mandarin Skin Peeling.

I work at a private-owned LFS. We are treating the mandy with a product called "melafix"... He's been there for a day or two now. No change as of yet.

Oh right, sounds nice. Hope urs is ok too, let me know if he starts to get better!! Likewise will I if I found a magical way to help him!!

Mandy is miraculously healing! The cut has closed up significantly and the patterning is coming coming back. :)

Still not sure what was causing it? Possibly was ammonia and possibly was salt. Both resolved now so fingers crossed. Thanks for all your comments and help!

Now... To tackle my next, Seffie said Mandy looks thin, he's got copepods, and brine shrimps (live) weekly. What do I do to feed him up. I can even see Lil bugs crawling on the rocks during the day. He just doesnt ever eat them!! Suggestions?? Is my Mandy crazy!! He jumps at the brine but can never catch them as the water movement is quite rapid in my tank.. (thts another question for you guys, can use to many powerheads. I only have a small tank, and I have a double barrelled and a single powerhead, too much??)

So I've heard of bottle feeding, can someone tell me any more?

Lewis

When you supplement the tank with copepods (and this should be weekly) and brine shrimp, do you turn the powerhead off? By the way, brine shrimp have next to 0 nutritional value, get mysis instead :good:

If you have a read of the 'Fish of the week' for Dragonetes you will see info about the bottle feeder. However, basicly it is a small bottle that you put the food in, so that only the Mandy can get it, but s/he also gets used to going to the bottle for food

Cheers Seffie. I dont turn the powerheads off, should I be??

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but used to successfully keep Mandarins.

Please try feeding him with lobster eggs. Purchase some air line and attach one end of this to a wooden kebab skewer with cotton to keep it straight and enable you to "aim" the food at him. If your water flow is very high, turn it off whilst feeding. Suck some up in the tube, put it into the tank, and aim it directly at him, gently blowing on the other end! The lobster eggs will expel where you are directing the tube, hopefully right in his way. This will enable him to get a direct food source until your pods are up, but I would also advise feeding this way no matter what as an addition.

I sincerely hope this helps.

:hi: Kirsty, I have read a few of your posts and hope that you stick around and become an active member of our salty community :good: how about indroducing yourself in the Meet The Salties thread?

Yes Lewis, turn off the powerheads when feeding if you have a slow feeder in the tank

Hi Seffie,

sadly don't keep marines now, long story which I won't bore you with, but still have a love for everything marine. i just lurk here from time to time to have a nose at the posts and offer advice if I can, but will be on the tropical side a little more as currently cycling a small tank after a long break from fish keeping.

Lovely forum here :D
