I had a pair of bettas spawn on tuesday. Now I have little babies darting around the tank that appear to be free swimming already and eggs that haven't hatched yet. The daddies tending the eggs well but scarfing the ones who are swimming. Should I lower the water level and take daddy out?? or leave him?? thanks!

Maybe the eggs that haven't hatched are infertile? I don't have experience, but if it were me, I'd take daddy out.

Take mom out, leave dad in. As soon as dad becomes agressive, take him out.
The babies will eat their (blanking on name).. shell the hatched out of... then you need to feed them from like the 2nd-3rd day.
Others around here have way more expierence, and I'm not sure. :good:

Are you sure the dad is eating his young? The dad will usually take babies swimming too far from the nest in his mouth and spit them back into the nest for a while (looks like he's eating them but he's just carrying them by the only means he has, his mouth). Eventually when there are too many babies free swimming, he'll quit trying to chase them down. Most of the viable eggs will have hatched by then, and that is when you take him out. If you feel there are enough living babies by now, you can take him out. Some of the eggs will hatch and the babies will drop to the bottom and they'll either live or not.
