Hi, I have a small pond with a couple of comets and goldfish. I bought the comets about 2 months ago and they are only small (3").

I have noticed that one is getting very thin and not eating. Yesterday I saw it trying to eat, but it didnt seem to be able to open it's mouth. I caught it this morning to have a look, and it cant open it's mouth. There is no fungus or anything abnormal other than its mouth being stuck fast! It is getting very skinny and I dont want it to suffer. I am assuming that it was like this when I bought it.

Should I end it's suffering so as not to prolong an inevitable death? I dont see that there is anything else I can do. Any other suggestions?

Dire skinnyness in fish is commonly caused by internal parasites or internal bacterial infection, if the fish can't eat anymore though it sounds like there is little hope for it now, so euthanasia might be the best option.

Could be what they call Skinny disease.. This is bacterial and needs attention..Treat with a broad spec med and also feed medicated food..The whole pond will need to be treated.
