i brought a upside down catfish and featherfin catfish toghether and they where really active but i had to take the featherfin back because i was nipping and i havent seen the upside down catfish swimmin since i took it back about a week and a half ago its still alive i can see its gills just will it be more active if i get another one or will they just both hide and will they fight

My upside down is very inactive, alot of the time he'll stay in the same place for days on end and then have a swim around late at night then straight back to another plant and stay there for days. I think it's pretty normal for them but if anyone else could help?

upsidedown catfish (Synodontis nigriventris) can be kept in groups but don't do much during the day. They will spend most of their time hiding under a plant rock or wood only venturing out when food is added to the tank.
A small featherfin catfish (Synodontis eupterus) would be fine with them but will eventually get much bigger and could cause problems.

Hey first post here.

I have had a upside catfish for about 7 months now I bought him very small and he is near 2 1/2 inchs now. I thought he died I couldn't find him in my tank for almost 2 months. Then one day I seen him early in the AM and found him hiding in the tank where he camo's in. I have seen him swimming 3 times in 7 months so it's pretty normal I guess.

lol welcom to the forum ......i thought my two bn plecos wer dead for about a week
found em in the filter
alive !

some fish are just better at playing hide n seek than huans

i thought mine was dead i can normaly see him he hids in the same sport every day but the last couple od days he wasnt there and i was lookin to day and was getting worried and on of the plant had fallen ove so i put my hand in and out of nowhere he came out and was swiming against my hand

got an upsidedown catfish too n he has his own wee hiding spot which he stays in until i turn the lights off, only found this out when i got worried he had died n decided too look for him its only on a rare occasion he will come out in the light, have a banjo n hoplo aswell but the hoplo is the only one that comes out all the time some must just be more shy than others :fun:
