Hi. as far as i can make out you need to be certain which upside down catfish you purchase as some grow huge :look: and some stay relativley small.
am thinking of getting some but would preffer the smaller variety as they will be housed in 180L tank
any one clued up on this? :)

I've got 4 Synodontis nigriventris. At the moment they are about 2" long but can grow upto 4"

nice fish :)

I guess these are the bunnies i am looking for.
i read that they feed from the surface is this the case most of the time or is it just one of their habbits?

I have a few of these (and have kept quite a few in the past) and have never seen any of mine eat from the surface, always from the bottom or around driftwood, plants, etc. Just depends on the fish you get I guess. The tank lighting has varied during this time as well so I am doubtful that in my case it is because of too much light.

I would however, wager that having a dimmer tank would help to encourage this behaviour as they do have sensitive eyes and are a very shy fish. In my case though, I personally think it is down to the individual personality of the fish I own, you may get vastly differing results.

your lucky, this is one of my favorite fishes and i rarely get to see mine. he comes out of his tree stump about once a week while i am watching him. yeah i think these guys don't like to much lighting, because when i turn the light on in my room i can see him swim back in his stump, but mine does eat from the bottom.

My two hide under my underwater filter all day long until i feed them. They are straight out and eat from the top until the food sinks then they are on the bottom to finish it all off. :fun:
