Hi folk,

Firstly excuse my shocking spelling.

I am currently setting up an upgrade from my 55l tank (after it sprung a leak), aiming to keep this updated as i progress as i'm bound to have questions on the way. I am mainley interested in getting my plants well stablished and heathly before i add any fish, i like the ideas posted here about non fishless cycling. Before i do add fish i'll put in some mature filter media as well. Any advise on this would be greatly welcomed. Will be upgrading my co2 system to a presssurised one very soon. The wife and me don't like the idea of playing about with presurised fire extinguishers, seems a bit dangerous. Could any one advise me on a good refillable system for under £180? Had a look at JBL and Red Sea, but would like some advise before i shell out.

Here are some pictures of my progress so far:

Hard scape 2 weeks ago

Planted 4 days ago

My set up is as follows:

Juwel Rekord 800 (110L)
Juwel filter
Twin T8 lights - 4HRS ON - 3HRS OFF - 4HRS ON. (will add reflectors soon)
Gravel and sand from my old tank
Tetra substrate
DIY yeast CO2 system.
various bog wood ( 4 fair sized bits)

I am dosing with API leafzone as per the bottle.

Here are a list (most of my plants)

Crypt Nevilli
Ech Tennellus
Pygmy Chain Sword
Crypt Wendtii
Amazon Swords
Red AmazonLobelia Cardinalis
Red Ludw
Vallis Corkscrew lrg
Hygro Polysperma
Vallis Torta
Barclaya Longifolia
Crypt Balansae
Aponogeton Crispus
Nymphea Stellata (Quite exited about this one, seems showing sprouts already from its bulb)
Java moss
java fern

Not sure if i have them all here, am terrible at naming plants!

Will update with the water stats soon, any comments or tips welcome.

Thanks

Matt.

fe pressurised systems are the easiest way to go unless your very rich how did you get your drop checker green in such a short time without pressurised co2 ?

Thanks

I made myself a diy co2 system - i mix 1 teaspoon of yeast (safeways) to a cup of suger and tepid tap water, lasts me about a week. the whole thing is in a 2 litre sprite bottle.

can add pics if you want.

want to upgrade because i get abit fed up changing out the yeast all the time. Often have to go away with work. by no means rich just saved for it.

The drop checker could be filled with tank water and not 4dkh water. This could give the "green colouration", a false one (there will be other acids in the tank water not just carbonic acid).

FE are just as safe as pretty packaged up pressuzied systems by JBL or any other manufacturer. FE are just cheaper. They're both pressurized CO2.
