Update On Spitfire's Tail

His tail is finally closing up but he is kind of looking depressed since I took all the decorations out of his aquarium.
 
am guessing he damaged his tail on the decore then? get some live or silk plants in there for him, with nothing he will become very depressed

I put a silk plant in and he managed to reopen it and another wound
 
A real plant is almost always safe Platy lover. Why not go with a low light, low maintenance, plant like Anubias nana? If your boy is clumsy even that plant can hurt him but I find the Anubias group are pretty darned safe around all of my fish. I have a nice 6 year old one in the endler tank where my betta splendens lives, but I have live plants in almost all of my tanks. Plants are easy if you don't get carried away with high light/high nutrient plants.
