Update On My Tank

So far its looking really good. Don't worry about the clowns, that is normal behaviour and they are tough little buggers. Once they establish the dominance they will be fine. One of my females used to grab my male by the dorsal fin and drag him around the tank. Your time table seems very good to not have any problems, at least none that can't be taken care of within the timeline.

hi all quick update

new tube worm added this week will post pic soon
all fish doing really well looking good and feeding well
no sign of cyno or any other problem algea coralline algea flourishing

last readings as follows

temp 25
sg 1.025
am 0.00
nitrite 0.00
nitrate 5-10ppm [due water change]
ph 8.1

so looking pretty good at moment

i am a little worried about my cleanup crew however i seem to be losing snails at the moment have lost 4 in the last couple of weeks i am down to 4 left at moment my hermits are all doing well i have 6 equal handed and 2 red legged (they eat the snails)

is this because of lack of food due to no algea bloom or somthing else? :/

What kind of snails are dying? Astrea's tend to flip over and not be able to right themselves, and some species cant handle high summer heat temps. If it really is the hermits doing the killing, they just do it because they can or sometimes cause they want a more-bigger shell...

hi ski
as far as i'm aware they are turbo snails but looked them up in my book look like they could be astraea like you said maybe the hermits attacking them for their shells even though i've put loads in the tank :(

Yeah I've had bad luck with turbos and astreas. The astreas fall on their backs and die and the turbos bake in the high heat and die (my tanks 83 in the summer). Havent lost a single Cerith or Nassarius snail yet though...

may be time to get some other type of snails then, my temp climbed to 27 the other week plus you can't keep your eye on every snail which falls off a rock 8)

just thinking about it how do people keep track of how many snails, crabs they have got when the tank is full of rock corals etc like these big marine setups??

wow, my tank is 84 all the time, im gonna try and turn it down, it usually never works it stays the same temp no matter what i do. it cant be good for em.

Use a fan across the surface, that should help bring it down a few degrees...

watch out for evapouration though as it will increase alot :/

sweet, i fiddled with everything like the position of the heater and the tilt and the tem is now remaining at 79-80 degrees, thnx

hi all an update on my tank

unfortunatly i've lost my orange spotted goby he died whilst i was away and was consumed by my cleanup crew after some reserch i found out that he probably died from starvation due to lack of food in the substrate. found out that these type of gobbies are difficult to feed and only very deep substrate full of tiny invertebrates so i feel quite bad about this i should have made sure first that he was suitable for my tank :-( :-(

i have since added a purple firefish he seems fine and is feeding well i will post some pics soon

ive added a blue knuckle hermit to my clean up crew and i'm building up my snail population

all my stats are fine at the moment my nitrates are as low as they have ever been and staying low between water changes.

Yeah, me too :D. Sorry about your loss, but as long as you learned a lesson, you're better for it :good:
