I'm posting this here because I have tried several means of preventing the algae build-up and it keeps coming back at an alarming rate and nothing I have tried has stopped it.

I have a partitioned beta tank with holes in the partitions and a circulation and filtration system set up. I am getting a brown colored algae(at least I think it's algae) on the glass and on the gravel and it is growing very rapidly. It started growing shortly after I set up the light on top of the tank so I turned the light off but I would like to be able to have the light on.

pH is 6.8. I don't have any other test kits. I can get others if needed.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Is your tank in direct sunlight? Try changing the light to a lower setting if you cant, go to your LFS and get another light that fits that socket.
