I still use UGF in one of my tanks and they do work very good. I had it also in my 55 gallon tetra tank until I switch from gravel to sand. As long as you do a good vacuuming of the gravel ever so often. My LFS also uses UGF in all his tanks for years. Sand will not work with a UGF unless you have something to keep the sand from falling through the filter plates openings. You need the space under the plates to draw water through to the up lift tubes and with sand it will fill up that space and shut down the filter.

Hay wanted to reply this morning had to go to work. The PVC pipe under gravel should work with sand. I have never had a full sand base tank, I usually use gravel for a 30mm base then coat the top with sand, this allows water to flow more easily through the base, then any under gravel will work.

Tiger barbs are overrated and extremely aggressive, I don't know why people choose them over the rosy and cherry barbs.

That is very true. I bought a tetra air pump named “Whisper” and I returned it the next day cause my experience was that it was too loud.

Tiger barbs are overrated and extremely aggressive, I don't know why people choose them over the rosy and cherry barbs.

No they aren't they are little sweethearts - they act out because society doesn't give them a break, and forces them into a role.

If you treat them with love and respect they will blossom into their True Nature, which is one of caring and helpful members of fishly society.

They are just misunderstood, that's all.

Or pentazona barbs. They look like tigers, but they aren't bent on world domination.

had 10 and they constantly fought with one another, nipped each others fins, and even bit one of the face off one of them. Nothing but conflicts with them and they've started going after my other fish in the tank too, so I ended up rehoming all 10 lol


Theyre meaner than my skirt tetras and cherry barbs combined haha
