why after been in my tank for 6 months would a coral stop openning???

could be any number of reasons, firstly what coral is it? and secondly whats your water parameters?

it's a green star polyp
i'm just doin a water change now
nitrite 0
phosphate 1
nitrate 12.5 mg/l
ph 8.3

i,ve had a blue mushroom coral in a week it was ok for 5 days opened up and then yesterday one of the mushrooms died and now the green star polyp hasn't opened???

whats your KH and calcium levels?
do you add any trace elements?
What fish have you got in there?

Yeah probably.

i've put something in to remove the phosphate yesterday.

i don't add anything else.

i've got a flame angel, yellow goby, 2 clowns and a small purple fish i think it's a starwberry something.
Thanks againg

i've got a flame angel

There's another red flag. Flame angels are known coral nippers. Watch him exceptionally closely and see if he takes nibbles of the corals

I guess when something is eating you, it will start to bother you over time. Looks like Ski pinned the tail on the donkey :)

Yup, sounds like the angelfish's tastes are maturing as it ages ;). My flame angel when I had it didn't bother anything for a while. A month or two after I had it though it decided to start nipping. It no longer resides in my tank....

Snap same problem I had ive got a cream angenl that loves my polyp have been successful with reducing the amount he goes for it by putting some of this in the tank for the angel to nibble on http://www.onlineaquariumstore.com/acatalo...Sheets_30g.html Angels are natural grazers so are continuosly looking for food, so when there is none there they will go for the corals as its better than going without, that said there is no guarantee it will stop going for the polyp.
