I'm looking for a unique "artifact" to place in my tank perhaps half-buried in the sand with some Java Fern growing on it. I'm looking for something sort of like a half-buried flowerpot but a little more dramatic and unique. I was going to try some Silver Coins from the 1800's, but decided against it due to the deterioration of the coin after some time.

I also have a glass pepsi bottle from the 50's i was thinking of using maybe half buried and filled. Then my kuhli loaches could perhaps use it as a home as well.

Just trying to get some ideas of something that looks like it was naturally dropped into my tank, which is full of driftwood and plants right now. Too boring for me. I need something odd to break it up.

Any ideas??

a wooden wheel ...if you can get one small enough??

or depending on how big your tanks is

could be fun...bit like the fish won :D

Take a look at the picture and the link in my sig. That may be similair to what your looking for.

I've seen pics of people that had a ceramic coffee mug half buired in there substrate.

I think a old china teapot or tea cup would look cool.

Thanks everyone so far.

I just wanted to add that i was specifically looking for objects that are not fabricated in any way. More specifically something that could be dropped into a lake accidentally or something that should not be there, but is a real-world item. The ceramics are not a bad idea but not what i am looking for in this case.

Perhaps i'll drop in one of my stainless steel fishing lures and embed the hook into the driftwood and let it dangle.

Or maybe a couple arrowheads either laying half buried in the substrate or maybe embed one in the driftwood near the surface?

Bullet casings would be cool if they didn't corrode.

Silver coins from the 1800's?

Nothing bigger than a baseball for me unfortunately for this tank.

Try and find some old glass beer bottles, or use that pepsi bottle that you found. Let lots of algae grow on it and stuff, then it should look pretty cool! I used to have bottles in my tank, but they became infested with algae and they had stickers on em still so i took them out. If you do do this, please take some pictures, id love to see some. Maybe you could get some drift wood in the shape of a wooden plank or something. Maybe some minature rock statues. This sounds like a really cool idea, I'd love to see what it turns out like.

Also- i just remembered that you could put leaves that you find from outside in your tank. This is natural, but it may give it the sort of look you are trying to get. I think oak leaves are safe, so maybe try them. When i put them in my tank, it didnt look to good because there were too few. If you do put leaves from outside in your tank, you may want to put a decent amount in there.

I like the idea of the arrowheads. That could be cool. I have put obsidian in aquariums with no affects on water chemistry. Many arrowheads are made of this material, and it could look cool.

Maybe some bones of deer or something too... may affect water chemistry though. I'll have to try it out first....

Maybe if you boiled htem alot or something?

boil and a polyurethane coating?

Hmm, not sure if that would affect the water.

How bout a couple ribs poking up with an arrowhead in the middle?? :)

That would be pretty cool, the ribs thing. I actually found a deer skeliton on a beach, i was gonna take home some of the bones for my tank but my mom wouldnt let me. :( I think there may have been bits of flesh where the brain was though...

I'd have to find out if it would affect water quality. The calcium in the bones may make the water harder. If so what would i need to do to make it doable? A coating of some sort?

yeah probably, try and find some like fiber glass sealer or something maybe and coat it in that. Otherwise i dont know. I imagen something that you use to coat the inside of tanks with, such as silicone, would work. But maybe something more glossy looking.

you all forget about prob the most popular things left at the bottom of lakes (cept boots and tyres) a bicycle!!!

try get one of those matchbox toy ones or summin? age it somehow?

just an idea. :p
