Unknown Oddball

I had a juvenile one of these about a year ago. Didn't realize at the time what it was that I was buying (shame on me), in my mind I equated "gobies" with small hopping bottom dwelling fish...soon had my eyes opened though.

These are great fish, just make sure you have a large enough tank to keep them in due to their eventual size. Mine was very personable, and I looked forward to watching him grow to a behemoth. Unfortunately, his appetite got the better of him, and he died from injuries sustained from trying to swallow a corydoras. This fish is a perfect example of the "if it will can fit in its mouth, it will try to eat it" type of fish.

I would definitely try my hand at raising another one of these if I could find one again. Good luck with yours.

Yes, they are very personable fish. Watch out, they can grow to 26", but are usually not over 18" when fully grown, IME.

I know.... :dunno: ...it does seem kinda ironic, as many times as I preach about doing research on the fish you keep. It really reminded me of people who buy baby oscars to keep in a 10 gallon tank :p cause they're so cute  ...this little guy was so cute  in the store, and it was a goby, so it can't be a big fish, right? :hyper:  After the initial shock wore off, I decided it would be a cool addition to my fish room, and was quite saddened by his death.
