at my lfs i recently saw a flat fish sucking on the side of the tank, it was only small and can be described best as looking like a tiny ray sucking on the side, any idea what it was as i cant remember the name, not that it would matter my lfs never put the correct name or the latin name or anything much come to think of it. :alien:

i never considered that actually, looks kind of the same , the body looked rounder though but that could be because they are young

looked on a few sites ,looks about the same cool looking fish might get a couple ,seems like they are good algae eaters does anyone keep these any advise

They are only really meant for coldwater, needs to be well oxygenated as well I think.

a lot of sites were recomending tropical fish as tankmates such as gourami other loachs tetras and much more, there are some fish that tolerate large tempreature perameters, are you sure that they are only coldwater

They rarely survive more then a few weeks in typical tropical tanks. The water is too warm, warm water has a lower Oxygen carrying capability, and to still, these are high energy environment fish. They are ntives of cool fast flowing mountain streams, (hence the most common name "Hillstream Loach").

:D :D :D :D :D AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I LOVE YOU

i finally found the fish in my tank

thanks :)

well thats a first on this forum.

just a question how long have you had them and a wht temp do you keep your aquarium

R those really loaches? And do they like to be kept in groups? They look more like a catfish. Also what would be the minimum tank size for them?

i went to a fish store today that i have never been to a got two hillstream loachs because they were 2.75 and not 6.75 my lfs was asking. the clerk there was really friendly and knew what he was on about, he told me that they can tolerate tropical te,preatures as long as you acclimatize them well. they are doing very well they suck on the glass near the filter outlet (because of the current it produces) one is spotty and one is stripey they are about an inch but can apparently reach 3 inchs

>>> knew what he was on about

We'll see.

he told me he had kept six in his livebearer tank for nearly a year without any fatalities and it seemed a truthful statement.

and mine seem to be having a great time and clearing some of my algae

Lets review the thread in a few weeks time.
