:( Please dont shout at me!!!

I broke the first rule of fish keeping!!

I impule bought!!!

So Please can you tell me how big an agelicus pleco grows???

Also he/ she (my Girlfriend named him 'Angelica') is very in active just laying at the back of the tank moving every 5 mins or so then sitting for five more mins not really eating anything??

will i need to feed him or will he be ok eating all green junk (algae) off of my bog wood and tank inside??

Any advice is much appreciated!!

but please dont shout!!

Angelicus plec's only get to 4inchs but are very sensitive to water stats like ammonia and nitrites which is not good in a new tank, here's a link with more info on angelicus plec's;

I realy advise you read up on new tank sydrome and cycling tanks in the pinned articles in the begginner section otherwise the fish could end up end if you don't understand these sorts of things.
Does the tank have a strong filter and a heater and do you use dechlorinator?
Do you have any other fish in the tank and how many? How many gallons does the tank hold and how long it been set up for?

My tank hass been set up f0r 4 months!!

my filtration is way over the top can cycle the full volume of the tank 3 fold in an hour!!

it has 6 Blue King tetras, and 3 Glow Line Tetras as tank mates

all more stats have been stable for 3.5 months

At least your impulse buy only grows to 4 inches... I bought an Albino Channel Cat a few years ago with a maximum growth potential of 5.5 feet. :p

Wow, Teelie, way to go! Did you give up your bathtub to him? ;)

The pleco's my daughter has do the same thing, move then sit, move then sit. They LOVE sucking on cucumber slices. You could try putting one in a lettuce clip and let it drop. I'm sure he'd find it.

I admit I am staying the heck away from plecos after hearing so many tales of them outgrowing any tanks their new owners have. Yours sounds lovely though and a great size too. If I could get one that size range here I might reconsider owning a pleco. Yours would probably like those sinking algae wafers too. I'm only going by what I've seen my daughter's feed on/suck on. Other pleco owners probably have all sorts of ideas for food. And library book research is cool too!

You want to hear about a BAD impulse buy (which I do NOT think yours was)? A total fish newbie acquaintance of mine bought $45 worth of cichlids, threw them into an uncycled tank full of TAP water, chlorine and all and didn't even give them hidey holes. Because they somehow survived that shock he's now convinced he's a fish expert. I about DIED when I heard all of this today. Had I know he was going to do that I'd have tied him up until the urge passed! The cichlids did all die when he threw them into another tank of tap water yesterday while he cleaned the first tank....ARGH! :X But of COURSE it couldn't be the tap water or the non cycled tank....NOPE. :S  I didn't even know they had any fish until I heard about the mass die off. ARGH!!!!!!!! You didn't even come close to that one so far as a bad impulse buy goes...."oh see cute fishies, buy cute fishies, even though I haven't a clue how to care for cute fishies!" :grr: SAVE ME!

What are you going to name your angelicus?

 Petrified!!

My Girlfriend named it angelica but it might be a bloke so i aint sure whether thats fixed yet!

thanks for all your advice its horrible be a newbie anywhere but you guys make everyone feel really welcome!!

if you asked most people on this site(and they were honest) most of us have done a similar thing.learn by your mistakes.i've made loads.

Nah, my catfish went into an indoor pond. Eventually he would've gone to a much larger out door one but someone with sick goldfish killed both the catfish in there.

My BN like everything lying on the bottom. Now that they have cleaned most of the ugly dark brown/red algae off of everything they pounce on anything that makes it to the bottom. They seem to be nonstop eaters or log suckers :D

Mine seem to be fond of any bottom wafers including algae, also cucumber. (I just put lettuce in, but I don't think they have discovered it.) They like the shrimp pellets. I have some Bio-Blend Tropical food, which advertised qualities aside, sinks fast and is tough. It sinks past the tetras while they are swimming around with it in their teeth trying to get a bite of it and goes right to the bottom. At that point the loaches glide and plecs scamper swiftly to gobble and vacum the tank floor. More causiously the corey's slip around in the back. Since the algae disapeared, the plecs are gobbling up everything I put out. I have to put several bottom foods out a day and it all disapears.
