Under gravel filters

I hear the hot new setup is to reverse flow prefiltered water into them with a from a canister outlet.
I was aware that this process is being used by some marine tank owners but have never heard of a fresh water tank done this way.
Or just a powerhead it is quite poopular and doesn't build up the crap under the gravel as much, while improveing current and surface agitaion in your aqurium byut reduces bilogical filtration capabilities and still lets the undergravel area get filled with crap

I myself find them helpful actually, but i wont do it the traditional way, because the air pump only drags the waste into the tray of the under gravel filter, where as i prefer it drag it down, then take it in a flow and thrown out towards my filter, because you know filters dont pick up everything, and waste will get logged and decay, so i use a under gravel filter to pick up the decaying waste, and throw it out towards my filter in which to catch it and then i could clean it out, so i basically use a Under gravel filter as a add on, they are only good if you want to get those bits that internal and external filters miss and you dont have a Aquarium vaccume

;)

im not an expert but up until recently we had an ugf + external filter & everytime i did a gravel vac ( weekly) there seemed to be tons of c***p coming out, we got rid of it a few months ago & the gravel seems to stay a lot cleaner now for some reason....i dont know why, maybe ours was getting blocked all the time but we wanted to get rid of it as we were sick of having to replant our live plants all the time as our loaches loved to do regular gardening & pull them out- they dont seem to be able to do it so much now we have got deeper gravel & no ugf :D
