Hi all.

I currently have a power head set up but not connected to any under gravel trays (as there not even under the gravel yet) just as an extra flow and air source. But I also have a spare external filter, its for a much smaller tank than mine though.

So my question is this...

Would I be able to use the filter the same way you would a powerhead? Connect the in pipe to the under gravel trays with the out pipe possitioned where I would put the powerhead.

Or would this just be filter overkill?

There used to be a train of thought that UG filters weren't ideal for planted tanks.

As for connecting the filter through the UG - It would probably put stress on the filter, I wouldn't bother.

I was only going to put in a tray half the size of the tank. Yhis is where all my bog wood would sit, and put all my plants up the other end where there is no tray.

But as for the stress on the filter.. I hadnt even cansidored that TBH. Cheers for pointing that out :good:

Think i'll just give it a miss then.
