So the other day i went down to feed my bettas and i watched a lil tv i looked at my betta and saw his tail was jagged and ripping there is no gunk or anything on them is it because it is spring? I hope they are ok the one in the other tank is also doing it.... i hope its natural

No it's not natural and has nothing to do with the season.

It could be any number of reasons. They could be catching their tails on decorations you may have in the tanks, they may be having their tails sucked into the filter ( if the filters are not sponge types or protected/modified cannisters ) it could be a disease such as fin rot, they may be biting them out of stress....

Answering the following questions will help to find out what the cause is, so we can help and advise.

What size and set up of tanks do you have?

How long have they been set up with the fish in them?

Are they cycled?

Do you have filters and heaters in both tanks?

What is your water change regime? ( how often and how much do you remove )

If you can also provide a clear picture of each fish and it's tail, this will also really help.

He could have ripped it on something in the tank, or he could be a tail biter like Honeythorn said.

Why is it happening to both of them my mom will get the pics on later....

the worst one was nippy he has nothing in his tank besides a bubble filter and gravel....

So he's in a bare tank? That alone is not at all good. Bettas like to hide and rest on plants. A bare empty tank is utterly unstimulating and quite possibly stressful for any fish. Get plenty of live or silk plants for him to hide in, and a smooth cave perhaps.

How big is each tank? Answering the questions I posted would really help us to help you.

Omg i am such a freaking retard arent i =( God! Hopefuly i can cure it i will see if my mom will take me to walmart you guys must think wow i think he is stupid... should i do a salt bath?
1g for nippy
1.5 for solstace.... they dont sell 3 gs where i live

i just talked to my mom and she will take me today or tommarow ill do a 100% water change

Im sorry betta lovers i sound like an idiot and in exped

Nowhere near big enough. What do you mean they don't sell bigger tanks? What sort of fish store doesn't sell tanks bigger than 1 gallon?

You do know you can set up a clear plastic storage tub (food safe ) as a temporary tank right?
You can get those pretty cheaply indeed and they go up to around 17 gallons so getting one big enough ( 5 gals or more for each fish ) should be no problem whatsoever . You can get these tubs in any number of places , supermarkets, hardware and home stores, all kinds of places.

You can set those up the same as a normal glass tank and the fish will have a decent amount of swimming and living space, your water will be much easier to keep clean, and your fish will be healthier.

Could i use it as a permenant because imma lil poor right now...

of course you could use a storage tub as a permanent house. may not be the nicest tank to look into but so long as it holds water and you can stick a heater (bettas are tropical fish) and a small filter in the tank, volume isnt so much of an issue.
what kind of tank do you have right now at your disposal? i can give you instructions on how to build a VERY simple, inexpensive sponge filter(likely you have most, if not all of the materials at hand). and a small 25 watt heater costs about $10.
how is the fish now, a month or so after the last post.
id be happy to give you any suggestions i can think of to give your betta a healthy life!
all the best!
cheers

Oh, there good swimming hapily, sometimes ther one in the bigger tank stares at the paper i used to they can see each other because the tanks are within 1 foot of each other i have 1 glass my 10 and others are acrilic!

i dont understand your replies

answer these questions for starters:
-what size tank/s do you have right now to ouse your fish?
-do lots of waterchanges if the tanks arent filtered (a statement more of a question)
HOW IS THE FISH NOW?
