Sometimes. Dropsy is a result, not a cause... and there are tons of causes. You should assume it's contagious to be safe.

Some say it is, some say it isn't, so who really knows? Good advice that you should treat it as though it is. I've read often that it's really hard to cure. Sorry

hi i know im knew to this board but my goldfish has had dropsy(and its a bugger to cure) anyways i dont think its Contagios but if one has it probly some other will because its in the same conditions as that fish not because its infected by the other fish.

Dropsy isn't the illness... it's the swelling caused by the illness.

Some of those illnesses are contagious and some aren't.

Buy some Kanacyn. It's really good for dropsy and works in like a week if you catch it early. My betta was healed in a week and it even healed a huge hole that had developed by his ribs from the parasites eating his stomach.
