I've been doing a fair bit of reading recently about Rainbows and it appears that some of the species like M praecox stocked in lfs are very weak and I was wondering whether there were any breeders in the UK (pref in the South) that have home bred stock and if these would be stronger than the Eastern European 'farmed' stock.

You might try www.rainbowfish.info/ (copy and paste. Can't link to other forums) That is an Australian forum with ties all over the world. Some great discussions and pictures located there too.

Thanks drobbyb, I've been reading that forum (it's where I got the info about M praecox) but have yet to register. I thought I'd try here first to see if anyone has any connections!

I breed rainbowfish albeit in small numbers. I do have M.praecox 'pagai village' seems to be a healthy strain and they are F2 generation. However mine are only juveniles at the moment. I intend to breed them in the next year when they are large enough.

Hello again Sanj, same person different username (Miss Caretaker!), though I try to use the same one it's sometimes already in use! As I type, the Marosatherina ladigesi that I got from EliseW several weeks ago are spawning and have prompted my I werneri to spawn also, though I don't hold out much hope of raising the ladigesi fry.
Jo

Meant to write that I didn't hold much hope of raising the werneri fry. Hopefully I'll manage with the ladigesi as they've got bigger mouths!
