I've been to Maidenhead Aquatics both Guildford and Leatherhead and they're very good and helpful but, as you say, don't have a very large selection.

One to definately avoid is Pets and Gardens in Haslemere.
In fact BOTH pet shops in Haslemere.
Tanks are FOUL and stuff is overpriced.

My first fish and tank came from Maidenhead aquatics in Guildford (west Horsley garden center). The staff there were very good, they seem to know their stuff and I noted that their attitude and care towards their livestock was (in my opinion) excellent.

I have to agree with Red about the pet shops in Haslemere. One of them sold me a couple of Black Maws. I trusted that they were in good condition.

A day later I noticed that their fins didn't look very good and before I knew it my whole tank was infected with fin rot AND white spot.

I complained and the miserable manager reluctantly gave me some treatment for the fish, but by that time it was too late.

They died (horribly) and took the rest of my stock in that tank with them.

Lesson learned!
