I found this and thought back to a little PM exchange I'd had earlier in the week. I think I'll put it in a thread here as well because it seems to me that there are often people who cannot find a fish shop where they live. I doubt it is complete - there are always small shops that avoid these kind of listings because frequently you have to pay to get on them - but it's a start.

Enter your county. If you live near a county boundary, check both/all - "your nearest shop may be behind you" !

i got a fishy shop directory with a magazine and its been brilliant....we've visited about 20 shops in our area and have come across some stuff we've never seen anywhere alse....a very good idea they are

yeah i got that insert in the mag
one of the top 40 is very near me, and slightly dodgy looking too, cramped tanks, dead fish

do we have or want a members opinion guide on stores?

Andy - that wouldnt have been 'Practical Fishkeeping' by any chance would it??
yeah think that was the one
the only fish magazine i have ever bought
had some free water treatment stuff on it too

Well I dont think that my LFS made it into the guide, but it really should have done, it is a fantastic little shop they are really helpful and even give me free advice over the phone when i ring up to complain that my filter has a bit missing, then find in while they are off checking..!! dooohh!!!

and great range of fish, foreve changing so i can always find something that I want! :)

I'm with Andy_t on this one. I regularly visit about 3 - 4 of the ones mentioned in it, and although none are really cramped, 1 in particular always seems to have tanks with ich! Needless to say I never buy fish from this shop and advise anyone I know not to either.

picking up on andys point. Would a 'name and shame' forum be helpful. Or are we on the grounds of slander charges etc. I know i'd like to know where the good shops are.

Are we allowed to advertise good fish shops on here?....If so I recommend Seasons garden center at Burton Latimer Northamptonshire UK. Always friendly and will get you fish to order. The tanks are in great condition and I have had nearly all my fish from there over a long time. there are others in the town I would avoid like the plague!!!

I would suggest that rather than posting them here, they would do better to register with PFK's list, then any web user browsing the site would find it. There is a form for "readers recommended stores" but I don't know if they use that to build the county lists.

mine did :flex: :hey:
