Okay... I've had a few fishes before and I know how to take care of em' etc.

Just a few days ago.. I FOUND a fish in my old fish tank, in the garage. I'm guessing it hasn't been fed at all. He has lost him colour and is very small. He is a beta.

I cleaned his tank the other day.. with his water REALLY low. I've been feeding him and taking care of him. But, I'm worried he might die? What to do think I should do?

Oh, yeah I also put that beta fish mix remedy in the tank so that maybe it can heal him a bit.

And I REALLY want him to live lol.

Haha.. I named him Lester.. but, it's pretty odd that I FOUND him there... I mean who could have done that to him? I'm guessing it's been 5 months since he was last taken care of. My cousin works at a pet store and told me around how long he was left but, she said that SHE couldn't do anything and to just put the mix in the tank and feed and what I would normally do. so yeah...

Oh my goodness, that's awful!
I would try to keep his water very clean.
Some fish will actually adapt to bad water conditions, so you might have a problem w/ the insta-clean environment you put him in.
Maybe go out and get some cheapy anti-bacterial, fungal, and parasite meds, just to have on hand. The Jungle brand is cheap and is actually a pretty good product.
Uhm.... yeah... give him a little bit of food at first. Like a pellet a day, then slowly build it up to a little more. Don't want to feed him too much at first.

I'd also get him a little cave he can retreat in to (make sure it's big enough for him to turn around in though), a heater, and yeah... some TLC.

Poor little guy... I hope he makes it! You should find out who did such a crappy thing and then smack them upside their heads!

Hi, glad you posted! I saw your question on Yahoo Answers. This site is really good with helping! :)

Uhhh, so someone went in to your garage and put a fish in your old tank???
Mabye it was a garage by the pet store for housing animals from shipments?

First I must ask, do you know if your betta is male or female? If your unsure you can post a picture here.

Here is a guide on feeding bettas. It will show you exactly what a betta should look like after being fed. It will show what too much, too little, and just right look like. http://www.bettatalk.com/food.htm

Make sure the water is treated with a product to remove chlorine and chloramine. Betta's do good in over a gallon of water, 5 gallons being very good. Also make sure the bowl is covered, bettas can jump out of the water i've seen it happen!!!

Be sure to keep him/her warm. 75-80 F is ideal.

Good page for basic betta care. http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_care.htm

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Haha yeah thanks for the link.

Yes he is a Male betta.

And I'm pretty sure the tank holds 2 gallons of water.
This is what my tank looks like

I just went on google and got a link.. I hope it works...

Oh yeah, what type of food should I feed him?

With my other betta I've had I fed them dried blood worms. What do you think I should this little guy?

Hikari betta pellets, frozen bloodworms, freeze dried bloodworms, mabye live blackworms. Even a de-shelled pea as a treat! Betta's will overeat though so dont overfeed.

I feed my betta once a day, and dont feed her on one day (Friday), I do this to let her digestive system clean out. (I have a female)

You can scroll down this page for food ideas too. http://www.bettatalk.com/food.htm

Yeah, I heard about Hikari pellets and I was thinking of buying some of those but, I wasn't completely sure of it.

Oh, that's cool. -I just hope this little guy survives xD

FYI, a pea isn't a treat...it actually works to relieve constipation the same way a laxative would work on humans...

I feed my fish 2x a day. 3-4 if I'm conditioning them. They need a varied diet, so if you get the pellets, make sure you supplement him with some frozen bloodworms/brine shrimp/etc. in addition.

wait... im really confused. you "found" a betta in your garage in and old tank?

how does that happen?. and no way a betta was living 5 months without care.

Nothing about your first post makes any sense

Agree with Remz & Shaz :/

But with reference to food, all the stuff mentioned is good, but i would stay clear of "freeze dried" stuff. It swells up in their tummys :good:

always soak your freeze dried prior to feeding :good:

HAHAHA.. I know.. if I heard this myself I wouldn't believe it.. but, stuff happens..

I wonder how long that little guy really has been out there?
