I recently bought a female betta, and when I brought her home I was switching Ranger to the three gallon and Nira to the five gallon. I put them beside each other in their seperate cups before putting them in their tanks. I've noticed Nira's belly is a bit swollen (though not painfully obvious) and she has a little white dot by her belly. Is this just because she got excited when I put her next to Ranger for a minute or is she pregnant? I bought her from the fish store today.

Yes, probably. It's not a problem though; she will either release or re-absorb the eggs into her body. I would keep her out of site of your male since she seems so receptive to his presence.

So she's not pregnant, just got excited? Thank god, I was worried. Not prepared for little baby bettas!

They can't be preganant. They are an egg laying species. And who knows she might just have a full belly.. That little white dot occurs in all of female bettas it is called the ovipositor

You wouldn't get little baby betta's unless you conditioned a pair and put them together to breed as the male fertilises the eggs after they're released. Most if not all female betta's react in this way to males, all mine do anyway.

Okay, I wasn't sure if she got pregnant on the way to the Pet Store or something (?) or if she was just excited.
Right, eggs. She still needs to learn the feeding times, since I had to wait like 10 minutes before she realized I was holding the red grubs over the tank for her to eat.

I don't think she'd be full since I got her yesterday, and basically the whole time she was scavenging for food to eat. It's not really big, just a little plump :3

I'm glad. She's just a pet betta, and not to mention I've got no spare tank at all. The little white dot went away so I think she's okay now.

Breeding bettas is so incredibly different that I think it's actually impossible to do it accidentally.

Hope your new lady settles in well.

you will notice the females will create eggs and either absorb them or plop them out and eat them.
this happened with my female betta when i put her in a tank and she was happy with her new environment
