Well thanks all for the replies :good:

I luckily had a book on inverts with a pic of something similar on the front :) When I read they can crack your tank and break fingers I thought I better take action, only just got the tank up and running :good:

Now have to rearrange all my rock

See if your LFS will take it. Im sure there has to be someone locally to you that would be able to find it a good home.

Wow, you got it out :hyper: That is unusual, most things like this bolt into a hole in the live rock and refuse to come out from there...It is "cute" I suppose, but mantis will presumably need medium-thick Acrilic or overkill thick glass tanks to be safe keepping them if I remeber right... I've seen videos of these guys breaking pens with their "clicks"

All the best
Rabbut

The bigger "smasher" type mantis shrimp are capable of breaking glass but I have seen a lot of people keep them in standard tanks for ages without issues.

Capable is not the same likely. Mantids get a bad rap for bieng voracious tank destroying monsters. They're not and can actually be very intelligent pets. I'd definitely look to sell it as opposed to killing it. Somebody wants one :)

Ah being a newbie I was a little scared of the thing wrecking my tank and breaking my fingers :)

Wish I had left it in the tank now, but you live and learn

Im surprised no one has informed Mr. Brown that besides actually destroying your glass (rare), that these things will eat just about everything in your tank.

Vile is not quite the word that I would use but the way that they move is more insidious. I think they might actually be related to crows just on intelligence alone. Nothing moves like these do unless theyre quite aware and intelligent. Unexpectly so, hence the comparison to crows, which are known for the same thing. Mantis shrimps are actually fascinating and quite pleasant to look at once you staple one down without spooking him/her off.

If you dont plan on keeping it and want to add other fish or inverts, it will NEED to be removed.

It has already been removed. You are right though I dont think any of us did mention the fact that they will kill and eat most mobile inverts and smaller fish.

Ooooh OK I didnt realise that bit ... about them munching on anything in sight ...
Thanks for the info, thankfully its out the tank, replaced with a nifty little clean up crew, it would have probably eaten

This is exactly the same an the mantis i have and its awersome i love it.

I have it in a seperate tank which is about 6 gallons, very shy and dont see it very offen but its fascinating when you do see it though.
