Uaru Cichlid

Uaru amp....

fantastic fish... that get better as they get bigger.

ime very peaceful, but wont take any crap

will eat anything green in the tank inc java xxx

400l is borderline with your current stock, they are 8-10" when adults & do best when 4+ are kept even though they wont usually swim together when bigger.

very sensitive to pollutants, not just the usual 3, metabolites will bring on lateral line erosion very quickly, one of those fish that needs very very good water.

U fernandezyepezi all the above in spades ( & cost more like 100 each)

well the waiting is over and after cycling the tank I went and bought 4 shiny new Uaru juvs (bout 2") this morning. They look lost in a 5ft tank but hopefully not for long! At the minute the only other fish are 4 flagtails and 4 clown loach so there's plenty of space available yet. I need some nice dither fish and I spotted some small Sajica this morning, would they be suitable tank mates?

Dunno if anybody is interested but here goes anyway...

Introduced my Uarus the other day and they WOULD NOT come out of hiding, constantly hiding amongst the bogwood and reluctant to eat. Didn't panic at first after all they are shy and the ordeal of being moved must have shaken them a bit. Day and a half later and no change I'm gettin nervous... Whilst up getting a few penguins as shoal fish the guy asked me what I was putting them in with, all that jazz... and when I mentioned Uarus he told me they'd had a few in recently. "Very shy", he told me, "funny thing was when we put a few discus in the same tank they were happy as larry!" This got the old grey matter working and although I wasn't prepared to fork out for Discus I wondered if something like Angels would have the same effect? So I bought 4, just slightly smaller than the Uaru and headed for home. The result was instant! Literally 2 mins after releasing the Angels, them and the 4 Uarus were swimming together and feeding away and have been ever since in one big shoal. The U's have resorted to type and are demolishing every bit of lettuce I put in for them, really ripping it to shreds, the funny part is the Angels try to copy them although in comparison they kinda suck on it then if a bit does come away they spit it straight out!
