Hi all,
I have a free 300 litre tank and my local fish shop has some young uaru for sale at only £4 and i was wandering if anyone on here has any experience with these fish before. What are their characteristics, needs ect. Any help would be great.

Also i have been looking for a rotkeil severum for a while now and cant find them anywhere where i live in Birmingham uk.

Uaru need almost identical care and conditions to discus. The biggest difference is uaru are plant eaters and need lots of veggies in their diet. They will also eat any plants you try to keep with them. 4£ is a great price. They do get large, so my suggestion would be to buy 6 of them, but only keep a pair when they are older. They are shy, usually unaggressive fish that need their own kind while young.

Agree we all the Rev says , mine loved peas etc .They are lovely colourful & peaceful fish , although they are capable of holding there own.

£4 is an absolute bargain.

thanks for the advice, do they get along with severum's or are they best in a species only tank?

Depends on the severum. I would say usually, yes. Add the severum after the uaru and you'll have better luck. Don't forget dither/target fish. Some of the larger tetras like bleeding hearts or Columbian tetras work well for this.

Could you give us some more information on your set up please; tank size, filtration, temperature, results of any water tests (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, hardness) any tank mates, and what you're feeding?

The more info we have, the better we can help you
