I was browsing a LFS at the weekend (I had went for a nerite snail) but since the shop is quite a distance away and I really like it we had a good look around; sitting in the middle of one of the tanks was a huge Sulawesi yellow snail. I kept being drawn to the snail for some reason. The tank had loads of tiny ones as well; they all looked to be brown bodied and I liked the yellow one better. My boyfriend found a small yellow one at the back so of course it came home with me. They should have been around £6 each, however as I got my nerite as well (£1.99 each or two for £3.70 or something), I got the sulawesi snail in the deal as it was so small (about 2cm). SCORE
Since he’s green we’ve called him Shrek lol.
Anyway he’s been fairly active and seems quite nosey. I am half thinking of going back and possibly getting another one. He is really fast as well. I’ve read they don’t eat plants, is this true? He was chomping on a plant root the other day, but I’ve been feeding him algae wafers . Is putting one or half in every other day sufficient or would I need more?
It is in a tank with my male betta, after being in there over 24 hours my betta finally flared at it once, and then swam away. He’s been looking at the snail but not being interested. He did however take offence to the algae wafer and it’s been being stared down lol.
I’m aware it’s not common for these snails to breed in an aquarium; however….does anyone know how they’d breed? Do I literally need a male and female present? And they’ll do the rest, or do I need to entice them with a bit of mood music; no seriously do I need to have warmer/cooler temperatures or anything?
