Last night I put 3 flying foxes into my 20 gallon tank. Its only been running for about a month and a half. There are also two swordtails, and 1 mollie in the tank. The water has been slightly greenish a month ago but that went down when I kept the lights out for a bit longer each day. Now you can see a very light green tint in the water if you look through the tank longways.
I floated the bag for 15 minutes, then put 50% more water from the tank into the bag, floated it 15 more minutes, then allowed them to swim out without letting the water out. Was this wrong of me?
The fish seemed to be doing fine, I had to lights off for a couple of hours so they could get used to the tank without being bullied by other fish.
A couple hours later I fed them some flakes and Tubifex worms, only a tiny bit and they ate it up quickly (all the fish, including the foxes). After that two of the foxes seemed to be hanging out together, one was exploring.
This morning one of them was completely dead on the bottem, belly up. The other was dying on the bottem but sometimes tries to swim but ends up spiraling in all directions. (bladder problem?) The third is fine, fins up, eating algae off a peice of driftwood.
Water test came up:
temp 77degrees f
Ph 7.7
KH 80
HG 150
NO2 0
NO3 35
Sorry for all this infomation , just hoping to find out exaclly what went wrong
