Two Bettas In One Tank

I found this on youtube. They have lived together for a year.

The blue betta is bullying the other one, they may live together 'ok' but think of the stress the orange one is being put through. Guaranteed it's life expectancy won't be very long.
ye didnt look very friendly
i was amazed at guppys aswell tbh

but the tank is very plain nothing for them to claim as their own territory, 2 very calm bettas mine flare at each other for a bit then get bored, i dont fancy allowing them to get to each other though

i would think a 6ft tank might work if it was extreamly densly planted but i still would personally risk it just because you know they will find each other at some point and you never know what will happen. why not wild bettas? you could have a big group in a tank that size.

i wouldnt call that living, the darker male is clearly the domiant one and does bully the white one, also notice the state of the fins, clearly been at each other with all that damage

Whoever owns that youtube vid is pretty naive and silly, by his/her replies.

I really wish people like that would have their fish taken off of them

i would prob risk this in stages though
put one betta in let him settle and see how much of the tank he patrols
then divide it alow the other in to establish his territory and get used to the other
then put one in a trap and let them get close and used to each other more
then release and watch solidly for a few weeks

then again a divided 6ft could house a doozen bettas if not more

I wouldn't put one in then another... put them both in with a devider, then after a few months take it out, but watch carefully

i only ment a few hours to see witch end he wants as his territory, then less chance of him entering the others end

IMO, it's asking for trouble. Sooner or later, one of the males will become ill due to the stress.

The main issue is that bettas don't really keep 'territory'- well, domesticated splendens don't, anyway. If you're going to make a comparison to 'the wild', then territory is defined by aggression. The trouble with splendens is that they don't know when to stop. With, say, other labyrinths, if there is a fight, the loser leaves and the winner stays in that area. With bettas, the winner will just keep following and attacking the loser until the inevitable happens.

Yup, bettas are just neurotic fish

Best off with putting females together, rather than males. Although in my tank, it is currently like West Side Story between my females and my neons.............

That is terrible  the fish are barely active, I was wondering why till I realised they had no heater, they are cold, this is the main reason why they are not fighting too heavily, they barely have enough energy to move, I can't believe they have lived for a year in those conditions :-(
