Hi

i currently am looking to purchase a t5 lighting unit with total wattage of 78W (39w each). however, as i will be using it on my planted tank this will be too high (following the WPG rule of thumb). Does anyone know if it is possible to run one tube at 39w and the other at a lower wattage? or if am able to run one tube independently?

Many thanks

No that is not possible, ignore the WPG rule it applies to T12 tubes, why not go for a single T5? What's the tank volume?

hi
details would help.Which T5 unit? Size of tank (gallons)? Are you looking at high tec planted (co2 etc) or low tec?

oo SBS got there 1st

Would reflectors help - aimed to direct some of the light away?

Sorry Noob error

tank is 125l . Aiming to become a high tech high light tank. Currently running pressurised CO2. The problem i have is my tank is 80cm and most luminaires come in 60cm/90cm/100cm length. I would prefer not to mount the fitting to the ceiling, hence im going for a bigger fitting that has legs that slide along to fit smaller tanks. the unit it from all pond solutions.

unless anyone has any other suggestions? ive seen a couple of pics from users on this forum where the light unit is suspended from like hanging poles...(sorry that's the only way i can describe it - and cant find the pic of it either... :S) where would i be able to get those from?

You'll never need 2*39W, a single 24W T5 would be fine for growing everything coupled with CO2 and decent fertilisation.
