'Twas the night before Christmas, I had finished my rounds
The aquarium light glowed out on the grounds.
I entered my home and the mantle looked grand,
Except for my cube on it's cheesey black stand.
Liveaquaria boxes were strewn on the floor.
Not to mention splashed salt mix, and nori and more.
My kids had already retired to bed,
The aquarium ranks second to new toys instead.
The timer went off and the tank had turned black.
The results of my nitrates had yet to come back.
I put on some sweats to get ready for bed,
But first I would read the new nano reef thread.
When from downstairs arose a horrific loud sound,
That made me jump up and completely turn 'round.
I ran down the stairs and I tripped on a box,
That had soaked up some water and leached thru my socks.
I flipped on the lights and and what did I see?
My JBJ cracked like some members warned me.
Like a split in a dam, the water was draining.
I could see that the life in my corals was waning.
Thank goodness I spent time and read in this forum,
That a cube could destroy your nice bedroom's decorum.
Navarre had warned me on how to react,
Plastic tubs would suffice if you rush quick and act.
Zoanthids and mushrooms and my favorite green anchor,
Were quickly swept up and submerged without rancor.
My yashia, my pistol, my pretty true perc,
Were rescued but man did I feel like a jerk.
You see, cubes are supposed to be solid, my friend.
And not have a crack you can't see at the bend,
That dumps tons of water all over the place
And leaves you with nothing but tears and disgrace.
But our members are strong and never give grief.
They bounce back and go on to build a new reef.
They'll search and they'll read and post threads by the yards,
To ensure that the next tank won't end up in shards.
We feel our friends' losses, we know that it sucks,
But nano'ers learn and we say it with bucks.
We learn from our crashes, just look and you'll see
A new Oceanic beneath Santa's tree.
Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the reefers who helped build my tank. SH
