I bought this fish of my brothers girlfriend about a month ago and he/she had it on her face then but it seems to have gotten slightly bigger since then, my brothers gf tried to tell me it was the bristles of a male bristlenose catfish but err it doesnt look like bristles to me =p I've posted this in another section but haven't got any replies and am kinda worries about it, so put him in a hospital tank this morning and got a better photo of the lesion.

She/he is also about 3 inches in length so would it be possible to determine if she is a she yet?

Tank size: 3ft(no idea in gallons or litres)
pH: 6.8
ammonia: no idea don't have a test kit
nitrite: " "
nitrate: " "
kH: " "
gH: " "
tank temp: 26oC

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
Fish appears to be perfectly fine, goes about his/her business with no worries at all. It appears to be growing on/around the noseish part there near her eye.

Volume and Frequency of water changes:
Due to water restrictions and the fact we're on tank water, myparents crack the hits if I do it any more then 2~3 weeks, although as I said this lesion was there before I got him/her and she used to do water changes once a week/fortnight

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
Err no chemicals added that I'm aware of other then PH up or down depending on whats needed.

Tank inhabitants:
3 oscars 1 silver dollar, 1 gourami, 1 clown loach, 1 red tail black shark, 1 spotted catfish thing that I dont remember the name of, and the 1 infected bristlenose

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
nly plastic plants a few weeks ago.

Exposure to chemicals:
none

You need to get a test kit and do alot more water changes.
The fish you are keeping are large messy fish and bad water quality could be contributing the the lump.
You CANNOT in any way shape or form keep those fish in a 3 ft tank. You are severely over stocked.
Water changes are essential.
Make sure you treat any water you put in the tank for chlorine/chlomarine
We will help all we can and there are many people on here who are very knowlageable about variouse fish diseases but you MUST re home alot of these fish they grow to be VERY big and some can be very aggressive to other fish.

I need help with this fishes tumor not to b flamed about how many fish I am keeping, the fish I have are very happy AND healthy(minus the tumor) and if you wanna ring my parents up and tell them to let me do more water changes go for it, it's not my choice so don't flame me.

sorry but im guessing with it being a three foot tank, thats what..no more than 200L water? less even? (43 UK gallons)
For ONE yes ONE oscar alone..you need 55 gallons.

your tank is so severely overstocked its unbelievable.....and if you are only doing a small water change once every 3 weeks....your water quality is going to be terrible...thus making the fishs health suffer.

chances are yes that pleco has a growth/tumor on its face. if it is a tumour theres not a lot you can do to get rid of it..but you can help your fishes health by keeping the water clean???

are you old enough for a part time job? could you not try to earn a little money (even do a garage sale or something, car washing, paper delivery?) and give the money to your parents towards the water bill on the basis that you can do more water changes?

how long have you had the tank set up?

I'm 21 so yes old enough but am also on a disability support pension, I pay an overly decent amount of money to my parents for rent/board, they're greedy.(they dont even pay rent on this house, or power or gas or for the water) on the money I pay them I could live in a house on my own BUT my disability prevents this.

My tank has been set up since just after Christmas so about 4~5months.

Hopefully it's not a tumor he/she is my favorite fish out of the lot =[

I have a 2ft tank as well but it has cracks in it, is there any way to repair cracks or does the whole peice of glass need to be replaced?

excuse my ignorance, but if your parents dont pay for the water it shouldnt matter.unless your water tank is that small and they dont want you using it all up?

you cant realy get a bigger tank that you REALY do need, as that would mean even more water needed for the changes.

i would rehome all of them and get a tank that you can mantain properly.

no-one is "flaming" you mate, people are only telling you what you probaly deep down no for yourself!!

No one is flaming you seriousely it's just that those fish grow to be huge search them on google if you do not believe me you must re home them for their welfare please it's in their best intrest what you are doing is cruel.

I know you didn't know any better before coming to this site and that is through no fault of your own, but you MUST listen to the advise being given to you rather than keeping the fish in awful water full of ammonia that will be burning them alive for your benefit just because you like them.
