ok i have buddy and he has a 30 gallon tank and wants me to help him stock it so i was thinking would 3 pictus catfish 9 tiger barbs 1 fire mouth cichlid and one smaller type of pleco like clown or bushy nose pleco dose this sound ok to you i do not know what type of filter he has but all i know is it is a very good filter pleas help!

First thing I would say is, Google the fish you want to put in that tank, I wouldn't even recommend most of them for a 50 gallon nevermind a 30 gallon D:

Pictus catfish are not suitable for a 30, tiger barbs would be okay. They are generally best in species only tanks though so no other fish but them.
I don't know anything about cichlids and either of those plecs would be suitable for the 30 but I would not keep them with the tiger barbs. A friend and fellow member on here lost their bristlenose pleco to some tigers :(

What sort of fish does he like? Usually it's good to go to your LFS and write down the fish that interest you and then post it here and we can say what would be suitable.

Is he going to cycle the tank? It may be a good idea to suggest him to sign up here :)

ok i just thought of a stocking he may like a school of say 7 tetras of some sort he has i think 1 or 2 German blue rams now he could move those in and a school of 6 cory cats is this ok? and maybe a platy or 2

What are the dimensions of the tank and is his water hard or soft?

Definately not pictus cats, but you could scale it down and use cory's maybe instead, or a smaller catfish like a two spot bagrid (mystus bimaculatus), if you want to go cichlids there are plenty of dwarf species, apistogramma etc, only then the tiger barbs being so nippy maybe a problem, but you could substitute those with 5 banded barbs (puntius pentazona) which are much more placid than tiger barbs.

I certainly agree with pentazona (5-banded) barbs, they are very lively little fish, very similar looking to tiger barbs but without the ferocity.
