Okay im new here and have been into the hobby for 13+ years now, although i am new to breeding tiger barbs. I have a 29 gallon gallon setup with a shoal of 9 tiger barbs (5 wild and 4 albino). I have noticed one of my females getting really loaded with eggs as i have been feeding bloodworms and tubifex worms and rose the temperature to 80 degrees to condition her. I have a 10gallon setup that is heavily planted, set at 80 degrees, slgihtly acidic... to trigger spawning. I add the female and let her get used to the breeding tank, then after a day i add the male in the evening. Almost always the female chases around my fastest and most brightly coloed male that i really want to get to breed. Am i doing something wrong? Isnt the male suppose to chase around my female? I know alot of people say let them pair off in the community tank but i don't really see them pairing off. Because im trying to breed the wild type i have 3 females and 2 males (2 of the females are ready to breed but one is much much fatter). Can you guys give me any advice? thanks

side note: should i try adding the male first? he seems way to shy/intimidated by the female when i add him..meaning when they are both in the breeding tank he hides amongst the plants/sides

and about the pairing off ion the community tank, what should i be looking for? they all seem to just follow each other around with no real bond between pairs...if anything my two females seem to be dominant amongst the group

I had a go a breeding tigers last year, wasnt greatly successful, you do need to add the female first then the male, but they are devils for eating the eggs quickly, you need marbles or lots of large stones on the bottom for the eggs to drop between so they cant eat them. I managed to get 8 to free swimming stage then they all just died off, but it was my first attempt. This link has some usefull info. Best of luck.
