Hi, i currently have a tropical tank but i am looking to change to a cichlid tank. In there i have a few tropical fish and then a male and female Tbar cichlid. The tropical will be going downstairs in the parents tank but the tbars will be staying in my tank.

Can anyone recommened what other types can go with the Tbar for example africian cichlids etc etc.

Also what type of set up is needed, i currently have a large external filter so thats fine, i also have a sand base, 2 bits of lava rock for the current cichlids that then breed in and alot of plants.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi. I was thinking about changing like you. I can't offer much advice but would be interested to see how you get on!

It's not recommended to mix african and CA/SA cichlids, so you should rule the Africans out if keeping the Tbar.

I'll move this to the New World section for a better response.

Ok thanks for the info, will try and move it now. Cheers

What size tank is this? Potentially you could add some more but to get the best of a CA/SA comm I would want your tank to be 55-75g :)

The tank is only 30 gallons so i wont be going for a big comm i just fancied changing from mollies, platys etc to some more beautiful looking fish. Thanks

If sajicas means Tbar cichlids then i have a male and a female. I have since brought 3 new fish, i have brought 2 fire mouth cichlids and a blue acara and they all seem to be getting on really well. The 3 new ones are young ones so there is still plenty of room in the tank and a lot of hiding places for them.

Please can someone tell me what the fish is in my profile picture, it is meant to be a blue acara but doesn't really look like the one that is on the fish species section. Please can you help. thanks

Looks like a female convict cichlid to me.

I'd try to upgrade your tank soon if you plan on keeping all those fsh. 2 t-bars, 2 firemouths, and 1 convict aren't going to get along in a 30 gallon tank forever.

Yeah looks more like a Con than a HRP as the fins are not coloured.

30g is a bit of a squeeze for these 5, also be careful the Con does not breed with your Tbars...

thanks for the replies, to be honest it has a bit of both of those fish in it, but the colours seem wrong as it as blue orange green yellow and the actual fish is blue. The picture isnt the best quality as i dont no how to upload one properly.

Regarding the tank, i will eventually upgrade my tank to a bigger on, at the minute the fish are still small. They all seem to be getting along at the minute with the odd bit of chasing.

Cheers

but it definetly looks like the picture posted by jb12288 just with much brighter colours
