Help!! Think we may have bodged. Have set up a tropical tank and today bought 2 Orandas which we now think are coldwater fish. Will they be OK in our tropical tank cos they're in there!

The Orandas should adapt to the warmer waters however they will never be able to return to the pond or cold water setup. The warmer water will seem like the summer sun hitting the pond and raising the temp. which the fish like. However prolonging them in the warm climbs, they will adapt and get too used to the water so will not be able to tolerate cold water again.

YOu abviously dont know much about fish they r cold water fish !! but they probaly will survive in tthe tropical tank!

Snotirl, let's play nicely-no need to be nasty. We all had to learn, some of us still are learning, arn't we?????

Nothing is "obvious"when you are learning something new. It is only obvious with experience.

This is what I hate about this forum. Everyone is just SO sensitive..... Jeeze, speaking you mind shouldn't be a crime.

Hello HooDude,
Not sensitive, just considerate of other users. What a member thinks is right and speaks their mind without due care and attention may indeed offend another member. The reason that this forum is so successful, and you will notice if you look at the format of all successful forums is that they have administrators and moderators that care about their members of all ages, creeds and religion. It is not the purpose of this type of forum to be judge, jury and executioner. We should all be here to share a common purpose and that is to enjoy the forum. If every member knew everything about their hobby, they wouldn't be here-would they?

Hi,
I just read your dilemma, don't worry the Orandas will be absolutly fine in a tropical tank, I myself have a 4ft tank with fancy goldfish in, and I use a heater to keep the temperature around 74degrees Farenheit (23 Degrees celcius). Fancies such as Ryukins, Blackmoors etc seem to do better in warmer water as they don't tend to succumb to swimbladder problems. My pond also gets up to similar temperatures during the summer months- when the sun comes out of course.
The only thing I would say you need to think about is what sort of fish you intend to put in with them? Orandas will get large and have a tendancy to eat anything that will fit in their mouths! Also if you decide to mix them with tropical fish beware of any "fin nippers" such as Tiger barbs or Angels. My own fish are living happily with Plecs, Corydoras cats and a bristlenose cat, which will probably set the purists off! Hope this is of help.
