Hey guys/gals,.

I just bought a tropical tank, but im unsure about what fish u can put together, i like bright colourful fish and boistourous ones.

I would ideally like a lot of colourful small ones and sumthing rather big that wouldnt eat them. I like the snakehead fish, but that will just eat anything i think.

any input would be great, im going fish shopping tomorrow.

many thanks

p.s i like perana 2

Well you can get neons and cardinals an such but there not very boistourous. You cna get Blood fins they are sort of boistourous. There are many fish you could choose from who are colorful. Sorry i was not veyr helpful i'm just like :dunno: today for some reason. I am sure there are other who could help you but you could look up fish at this site an other sites ofr fish an there info so you knwo what u like.

2ft(L) 1.7ft(H) :)

i like harlequin rasboras. Also tiger barbs come in a few different color variations and are very playful. cant be kept with long finned fish as they tend to nip. Also if your looking for something interesting take a look at different freshwater "critters" like crabs frogs snails etc.. some are colorful and they can also help keep your tank clean.

I was in the same boat as you, but didn't want to go overboard when I started my tank. I've got some pineapple swordtails and sunset wag platys in it. They're pretty colourful (even more colourful if you keep mopani driftwood out of the tank). I also have neon tetras, which are nice.

Most Corys are pretty boisterous, too, but they're not very colourful. Really fun to watch, though, and they're bottomfeeders, so they'll keep your tank (relatively) cleaned.

corydoras adofoi and corydoras sterbai both have orange on them. I wouldn't keep tiger barbs in a 2 foot tank because personally i think they need more swimming room. cherry barbs might be better, the males are a nice bright red colour too. the other most colourful fish i can think of are definitely tetras, guppies, and platies.

j@mie you could go and look up some of these species on a site like fishprofiles.com, which has info about various species of fish. Decide which ones interest you, then if you have some more questions come back and ask us. the species which have been named on this thread are all peaceful and could co exist, the issue is to make sure you have the right amount of fish for the size of your tank.

If you are picking bettas for your tank make sure they are gentle though, I know you want boistourous fish but with bettas you either have the gentle or aggressive. And if you have an aggressive betta in a community tank thing can go very wrong, expect ripped fins and dead fish. So I would pick a gentle betta.
I have a aggressive betta and he already killed a goldfish twice his size and one of my female guppies, so I placed him in his own tank...alone.

Hi j@mie :)

It looks to me like you are just starting out in this hobby. If so, there are a few things you need to learn before you buy any fish. One of these things is cycling. Here's a link to a thread that will give you some good, basic information about them:

http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=10099

After you read that, feel free to ask questions in the Beginners section. We all had to learn this and will be happy to help you get off to a great start with your aquarium. :D

danios are like fish on speed, but more excited than boisterous. What about tiger barbs? See, the problem with boisterous is it limits your choices. If you go for tiger barbs you cant really get bettas, coz they will rip their fins...
