Tropical Fish Prices Warrington How Do They Compare To Where You Are?

No they won't, you can breed them at home and sell them over the internet.

No doubt the EU "one size fits all" approach will cover this in the fine print somewhere?

But we are digressing from the subject.
I was in a local LFS this afternoon (Rats Cats and Elephants part of A12 Bypass Nurseries, Capel St Mary, Suffolk) - electric blue rams at £8.95 each
and also at Swallow Aquatics - part of Mill Race Nurseries, Aldham Nr Colchester - Bettas being advertised for £3.50 - but none to be seen for sale.

i was a MA in coatbridge today, the were pricing their pygmy corys at £4 each!! rip-off as far as i was concerned for pygmies.also saw a dead zebra plec in one of the tanks.£99 they would have been asking for it.and cherry shrimp were £3 each

I wonder how much they paid for it and how the loss of that will affect their profits?

Lets not get started on hating the EU, you will never shut me up. Funnily enough i believe it is specifically stated you are still allowed to breed and sell them over the web. Totally ridiculous they are banned in the UK where they would not even survive. I'm buying one or two just to stick it to 'em, they do not have a right lay down the laws as far as i am concerned!!

LOL.

Prices vary from one MA to another because all the shops are part of a franchise! Different people own different shops/different groups of shops so personal opinions will come into play there...

But generally there is a lot of things that affect the prices between shops, bigger shops can buy livestock in higher quantity and more regularly and so can often haggle to get better prices on a lot of stock, espeially things like Zebra Plecs that are bred by various staff members.

Then there is also the location of the shop, shops in more afluent areas will have slightly higher prices than those in less afluent areas/small shops in villages etc...

And also the local competition, you dont want really low prices compared to local shops (this does sound backwards!!) but being cheaper isnt always better, it means you just make less money.... likewise, there is no point being way over priced compared to local competition unless it really is of far better quality.

A lot of thought does go into the prices and deals.....

And there is also the fact that there are about 120 odd shops and every week/two weeks we get lists with 20 odd suppliers for fish from different countries. Each shop can pick and choose what fish they get from where, fish prices change every week and so does the rate of exchange often. So fish from Europe will always be a LOT more expensive than fish from places like Singapore that has a better exchange rate... but not always best quality fish... South America has a poor exchange rate and declining species lists.... so fish will be more expensive....

You also pay more to have a box with 10 species in lower numbers than you do for a box with 4 species in higher numbers (packaging costs and so on)...

Just a few things that affect price...

With reference to the MA prices being different, in the one near me they have a big notice saying they won't be beat on price, so if you tell them of a cheaper shop/price they promise to match or beat it.

^ That is true on dry goods, not fish prices. And for the price promise, you need to print out/have photos of the lable as evidence of the product being cheaper elsewhere and if its from online, it has to include delivery cost that you would be paying and it has to be in stock (some sellers advertise low prices but never have items in stock).
