I LIVE TOO FAR FROM THE PET STORE, AND DONT DRIVE. ITS ABOUT 85 MINS ON THE 2 BUSES I NEED TO GET. THE STAFF HAVE ADVISED ME THAT THEY PUT THE FISH INTO BAGS TO TRANSPORT AND THE AIR WILL ONLY LAST FOR 30 MINS. :dunno:

THIS MEANS I NEED TO OPEN THE BAGS (AS I'M PLANNING TO GET QUITE A FEW) TO REFRESH THE AIR, WHICH ANYONE WHO GETS ON THE BUS WILL KNOW THAT THIS WILL BE A JOB AND A HALF.

ARE THERE ANY GOOD WEBSITES THAT WOULD TRANSPORT THE FISH TO YOUR DOOR, TO SAVE THE STRESS THIS WILL CAUSE FOR THE FISH, AND ME FUMBLING WITH THE KNOTS.

Just get them to fill the bags with less water and more air. Fish don't actually need much water when being moved. Sounds like your petstore leaves a lot to be desired.

By the way:

Oops sorry, thats me being lazy. I just find it easier than putting all the caps etc in  , point taken though, and i wont do it again.
I packed my goldfish to go to the midlands from Newcastle and they were fine for 3 hours.

Also, goldfish need more oxygen than tropical so I am now confused.

I'm guessing, that my nearest petstore "pets at home" formerly "petsmart" are no only incompetant but unknowledgeable too
They're my lfs too. -_-

Tri-Mar are good and pretty cheap. Carriage is £10, it costs me £3 to get to Pets at Home never mind the time and effort!

But if fish can be shipped long distance (all the way from cornwall) then if you buy fish from pets@home they will be fine. Like I say, they tend to know narthing at these places. Try and ask them to fill it with less water than usual.

Best of luck,
William

The fish are packed with oxygen at tri-mar. That's why they are ok. Not to mention the polystyrene box and the heat packs.

My pets at home just slings a bit of stress coat in and send you on your way.

For real, I have ordered fish from Trimar before. However I have also been able to transport my fish from Northern Ireland to London (10 hours or so) and they were fine. They were in an insulated box but were not packed with pure oxygen, I had no casualties.

The fact is their statement that the fish will suffocate is incorrect, as long as they fill it up with a good volume of air at the top.

I have bought fish before intending to go directly home before got into an auto accident and was able to finally let them out of the back after 4 hours. and they werent packed with o2 either. They will be fine for 85 minutes, just dont let the bag get to cold or hot, and minimize the vibration.

i think its funny how the brittish lfs like petsmnart dont sem 2 know didlly. in america they have ppl. that own fish there that know alot. they own the kind of fish that they sell there so thats y they know about it. at the petsmart i go to there are sometimes ppl. from diffrent areas like lizard areas there, but mostly the GIRLS are really good at it. i would trust them more then the males. they dont seem 2 know what their talking about much. not that im putting men down because i am 1, just saying at lfs' the lady workers eem 2 know more. well at least in this part of america.

EDIT; duh, i forgot what i wanted 2 say, the main thing.
aquairiumfish.net sells fish overline and they have really nice fish 2. its a USA site though, so i dont know if they deal w/pounds or euros, or whaever u guy over seas use

I've had to leave fish in the bag for longer than 85mins before (without refreshing the air) & they were fine. A mate of mine says one fish can live in there for upto 1 1/2 DAYS, though I wasn't game enough to ask how she knew.... -_-
