Well im no expert on this subject, However over the years i have read that goldfish CAN live with tropical fish
But you must consider.....Goldfish are cold blooded, and if they suddenly went into a hot tank (for them) they could die! Im not to sure what the best methods on how you do it... depends how strong the goldfish are i suppose..... Better wait for a better reply

things 2 think about are.... yes u can have them living happily in a tropical setup but.... higher temp will make them grow much quicke. ur tank isnt big enough for 2 goldfish and eventually u will end up with NO neons because the goldfish would have eaten them :(

yeah thats one thing that i thought about as the goldfish are much bigger than the neons, as for size of tank i was told that i can get about 6 goldfish in it so it is big enough ti would think? .. any idea how big they grow lol :shout:

thanks anyway any help is grateful;) just did not want to dive in and put them in right away without getting an advice.

lol whoever told u that u can fit 6 goldfish in a 60 litres tank is having a laugh :p normal goldfish can get to 12 inches or more fancy get around 6-8 inches maybe more so trust me 2 goldfish will be 2 big for a 60litres tank never mind 6 :)

the tank my golfish are in the now is only an 18 litre

it's not that they wouldnt be better in a 60ltr but eventually and sooner rather than l8r they will need another upgrade 2 goldfish IMO at say 4-6 inches long will need at least a 40gallon tank but i still would go bigger they are huge waste makers and need extreamly good filtration 2.

u asked wot i would do - maybe swap them at ur LFS for something tropical or if u know some 1 that has a pond maybe give them 2 them.

sorry for the news u probably didnt expect or dint want 2 hear :) but hey least u know now

^^second that. All my brood stock when I used to breed them used to be between 18inches and 2 feet in length :good: I'd only ever keep them in a pond

Goldfish and tropical fish require much different temperature ranges than neons or other tropicals. So, I would say no to mixing them.

Goldfish are cold water fish. Although they generally survive at tropical temperatures, the warmer water holds less dissolved Oxygen, so they always have some residual stress. The size incompatibility has already been mentioned. They are also big waste producers, Neons, on the other hand, are very sensitive to Nitrogen pollution. I would not advise keeping goldfish in tropical tanks.

Hi,

I have been keeping 2 fan tail gold fish (around 2.5" in size) in a tropical set up (kept at 25c, which is suitable for cold water fish and some tropical) for almost a year now. They are more that happy, they eat just as much as the others (3 zebra danio, 2 flying fox, 2 mollies, and a COLD water plec) and are very active. All my fish get along fine. I have a fluval 2 filter in which also provides oxygen to the water and i also have a tetra tect APS 50 which sends bubbles into the water, creating more oxygen as the extra heat will take away some oxygen in the water. (i would advise one if you do decide to move your goldfish)

Gold fish are one of the most hardy fish ever and will adapt to most conditions (with in reason) I meen, danios are tropical fish, but i have seen them in a cold water set up with black moors, orandas ect... they are hardy fish and will survive happily.

I do agree with the aboved comment though, eventualy 60l will be far too small for your goldies, but id rather them be in the 60l tank than the 18l one you have them in now. One thing to make sure is that your zebra danios cant fit into the mouths of your gold fish, is they would then dont put them together or you will certainly loose you danios.

I have never had any problems with my fish been in the set up they are in, i would just say when transfering them make sure to flote them for at least 15mins and then slowly let some othe water into their bag and leave a bit longer. Continue doing this to help the fish get used to the temp change. All should go well.

Good luck :good:

I currently have a 20cm goldie in a 57 gallon tank with an external 305 filter and it getts clogged quickly.

He will soon have to move to a pond but for now he is very happy
