Tropica Plants

So I'm not the only one! Thanks Chris, I was hoping my little thread would kick off this kind of response.Andy@RadaR, now wouldn't that be sweet. But I think you are right. Either have to be in the trade (and buy bulk perhaps) or be well connected.Ho-hum, but fingers cross this is not the case / a backdoor in can be found.Andy

www.birstall.co.uk seem to have a good range, they offered to order in anything I wanted (and didn't specify minimum order numbers) which was excellent. They said that often they have more in stock than listed online and to e-mail or phone before ordering to check.

Not sure on ordering from Tropica directly for consumer use - they have one (that I am aware of) UK wholesaler. They accept trade orders of £100 upwards and prefer you to be VAT registered - given they are trade prices then this may be whorthwhile considering if you want to order loads of stuff from them. Non-VAT registered orders attract an additional charge. Many plants from the wholesalers must be ordered in batches of 5 or more, with the larger ones and wood/lava rock etc being orderable individually.

Buying Tropica does not guarantee no snails etc - it all depends how the dealer stores the plants before sale to the consumer.

You may be able to get your local Pets at Home to order for you. I think most stock Tropica.

I am lucky in that I get them direct, as a writer for PFK.

I wonder how much of a dumb-a$$ look I'd get if I ask the bozos in my Pets@Home store for some Rotala Rotundifolia, etc

No, actually I know exactly how much of a dumb-a$$ look I'd get!

Nope, good idea & worth a try though.

Find the manager. He may not know but he should listen...

Why not offer to set them up a decent planted display tank, if you have the time?

I debated that but figured it would be knackered within weeks by numerous things that seem to be 'done' with P@H display tanks....

when i asked about tropica the man next to the fish section gave me a wired look when i asked 'can you order in certian types of tropica plants'

he reply was 'do you mean tropical plants?'

i said 'the ones in that tank that are 3 for £9'

he said 'i dont know'

good luck though

chris

May I suggest that you find out what day your local fish store receives their delivery of plants and buy them fresh. As for the damn snails, when I buy plants I check them several times. Even in the roots. Most of my plants were bought with snails on but I got rid of them! No snails in my plants.... No way.

hello to all you planted fans, ive opened a trade account with tropica as im thinking of adding live plants to our website, if im honest im not a big planted buff. so i would be looking for any input as to what varieties to stock, ideally id like to keep 30 more common, popular plants constantly in stock and then get more exotic stuff in once a month maybe

any input would be greatly appreciated

That would be a good idea, I'm not exactly sure what most people buy for plants as I normally buy the less common ones, but I'm sure some other people can help you.

It might help if you mentioned which shop (Tropical fish for you) you are, and the fact you are a TFF sponsor :D
