anyone heard of triops because im thinking of adding them to my 10 gallon community fish tank they grow 2 inches is it okay if i add them?

I keep them...I add mine when they reach about an inch in length and have never had any problems. What do you have in the tank?

all community small fish biggest fish is 2 inches i also have ghost shrimp

I had some triops! they were great, when they hatched there were hundreds but the big ones ate the small ones until I had three left.

The funniest thing was that they all had different characters! one was always searching for food at the top of the tank, the second was a mid level dweller and swam in loop the loops all day and the third one was a bottom dweller and spent his time searching through the substrate.

They lived about 3 or 4 months I think and when the last one died I looked at him under a microscope, He was covered in tiny organisms called rotifers, the rotifers were still alive and I felt a bit sorry for them now that their host was dead.

I wonder where the rotifers came from and if they live on our fish or snails?

wow i didnt know that. i kept triops long ago and they never really grew to a large enough size to be interesting

I was going to get these for my son for his christmas then add them to my tank too thought it would have been a daft question to ask on here

Guess i'll have some new additions soon then :D lol

oh ya i forgot to add i tried to add my 1.5 inch triop in my goldfish tank (goldfish were 3.5 inches) a few months ago but it got eaten :( but thats why im gonna try it with a community tank this time

Never come across them, just googled them - they look horrible!

it is funny that you posted about tripos. i have just decided to use them in my planted tank to help with all the plant matter. they eat anything, including each other. they are very cool and look like tiny horseshoe crabs. i cant wait to get some!!! they are very prehistoric looking, and indeed they are. havent changed in millions of years. pretty neat, i think.
