Triops

Perfect :good: Thanks :thanks:
The filter has foam at the bottom at the intake and a spray bar also so this can be aimed at the glass so there is not too much current. So from what you have described it sounds a go!! :hey:
I'm asuming adding carbon later wont bother them, as it does a great job with the water quality?
Also can you use substrate with these? or is it better to have a bare bottom ;)
Which species would you recomend for a newbie?

Thanks again.. Its always much easier when you have someone who knows what they are doing..lol

Substrates much better for them as they are bottom feeders and spend alot of time sifting through it for food, any kind of dirt is good for them as long as it doesn't ruin the water, coral sand is the best though as it provides plenty calcium, it was only £2.60 for a small bag from my lfs :) .
Carbons 100% ok, but i would really recommend just using an airstone for the first 3 days because they are next to microscopic when they first hatch :/ .
I would recommend T.cancrformis as they were much more hardy, alot of my Triops longicaudatus died one night when they were on the windowsill and the temperature dropped to around 15 degrees celcius because i accidentally left the window open. My Triops longicaudatus seemed to be much more aggressive and ate each other more too

Triops longicaudatus grow a hell of alot faster though and T.cancrformis has an annoying habit of hatching over a two week period. After 48 hours i had 2 babies swimming around and by the end of the second week i had over 10 of varying sizes, i couldn't turn the filter on when i had planned because of this which was annoying.

One thing i can definitely say to you is no matter which species you choose, never add more than half the packet of eggs. If you have too many triops you get a die off of all the smaller ones after a while and this can quickly affect the water.

Glad to be any help :D .

Few more pictures

Great pics :good: . I can see egg pouches on your triops and since you have lots of triops and because you added sand, you should get tonnes of eggs :) .

oooh yay! I thought those might be eggs. :D How do they.. erm.. do the deed? I see them rolling around together sometimes but I figured they were trying to eat each other

Most of them dont need to breed, some of them will but i dont know how they do it. I never saw mine do it so i presume they just lay the eggs and they get fertilized. Though some of them just get layed fertilized ;)

Great to see your new set up:)
Hope the lights dont drop off  I hope there is no way they can drop into the tank, that would be a total disaster. I'm going to watch this with great interest as Ive got my son well interested and he wants to have a go :hey:

Thanks :D .
I've fixed the lights now too so its going well, triops are great fun, I'm sure your son will love them :) .
